During the holiday season especially, many shop operators are worried whether their shop will be able to handle the expected stampede of visitors. At peak times, the systems have to process many more customers than usual. In the worst case, the shops become so slow that customers leave and go to other vendors. In the past, online merchants had to provide for additional hardware for ensuring reserve power to handle these situations. However, today, the cost factor can be calculated much more accurately since computing power can be added quite easily "on the fly". This trend is called "Cloud Computing" - managing data and applications on the Internet instead of keeping these on own servers. Besides demand-driven performance, data security and data availability are clear advantages of the concept. ePages already relies on Cloud Computing.

An article on emarketer.com shows that Internet usage by people over 62 is increasing dramatically and that especially online shopping is becoming more and more popular for them. So far, however, e-commerce has been staying away from the age bracket.

Most complaints about products purchased online are due to the fact that a product’s on-screen portrayal does not conform to reality: colours look different, materials feel different, sizes do not fit. Product descriptions with measurements are not enough to point a shop visitor’s imagination in the right direction. A lot of different zoomable images and product videos offer clear advantages.

Apart is a company of the Otto group that normally employs the Intershop Enfinity platform for almost all of its online shops. The German online shop of Apart is also consequently based on Enfinity. However, for cost reasons, the French version utilises ePages.
